Beatrice Restoration Gallery 2

Beatrice has undergone a body-on restoration, but I continue to improve her. This is a report of the progress I am making in continuing the restoration.

03/06/24 The top leaf pack is going back on the car. It will lower the front on the car by 2". Reversed eye. softer more pliable metal. 7 leaves instead of 9. nylon pads.

Notice the nylon pads between the leaves. It should have a smoother quieter ride.

03/08/24 All 4 cast brake hubs are cleaned, masked and ready for primer and paint when the paint arrives in a few days.

03/09/24 I decided to paint the chassis brown instead of black. Something different. Just kidding. It's Rustoleum primer. It will be black tomorrow.

03/12/24 Using a poor-boy media blaster to clean parts and prep for paint.

Front leaf springs painted and finished. Ready to install.

03/14/24 Before: This is the original rivited brake lining.

After: New brake lining that is fused on some how.

New cast brake drums are painted and ready to install.

Ready to pull the engine to rebuild it.

Taking the front crossmember down to the metal to prep for paint. I want to paint it before the front leaf springs are installed.

Cross member primered for paint.

03/16/24 The spring pack is too thin to engage with the bottom plate of the mount. I am using two spacers to fill up the void.

I swapped out the left rear fender with a fender that had no tail light holes in it. I have another plan for tail lights.

03/17/24 Today I attempted to connect the shackle to the spring perch and realized that the perch is warn out and the shock ball is out of round. Tomorrow I am removing the I beam axle and ordering two new perches.

All bolts and nuts are being removed, cleaned, in some cases clear coated and reinstalled. Warn parts are replaced. Original parts are being used as much as possible.

Got the different fender on today. I borrowed this fender from my second Model A Ford. I'm repositioning the taillights so I wanted a fender with no taillights.

03/17/24 This is a death trap waiting to happen. This is the nut on the right spring perch. It is cracked and missing all the way through the nut. This would wreck the car.

I pulled the perches and King Pin and looked down the line of the front axle. Do you see the bend and the mal-rotation? I can fix that. Give me a minute.

The brakes are installed in the left rear. Three more to go.

The wheel bearing is greased and in place.

The seal is on and the brake drum is ready to install.

03/18/24 I installed the right rear brakes today.

My shocks were shot. I pulled new shocks off of my second chassis. That chassis is becoming a donor. I am going to end up having to part it out instead of selling it as a whole.

03/20/24 All four shocks and cleaned and ready to primer, paint and install.

The front axle is straightened and ready to reinstall. Notice how the sticks are parallel.

03/21/24 The front axle is straight, all bushings have been replaced. Final test assembly is complete. Ready now to prep it, clean it, primer, paint and final assembly. This front end is better than new.

03/22/24 I made a deal on a set of four 1935 spoke wheels in perfect condition. They will be sand blasted and powder coated glossy black.

This is probably the rear tire that I will use. 7.50 x 16. I like the pie crust pattern. This tire will fill up the fender and rake the car for a hot rod stance.

03/25/24 This is my buddy Darrell Davis He owns a blasting company. Ge blasted my parts down to the metal.
